Schwetzburg in the News

Only two days to go until our friends from Schwetzingen arrive. It seems everything is all set thanks to the tireless work of the membership and the generosity of local businesses. The Free Lance Star ran an article in today's paper:

I hope to see many Fredericksburg residents at the various meetings with our German friends. If you meet them on the downtown streets in the next couple of days, say hello.

Pictures from our Booth at the Heritage Festival

Committee Meeting on June 16

In our first meeting after our trip to Schwetzingen, we showed a PowerPoint presentation (also available on the blog and the Facebook sites) to the member who could not come with us.

Since we are on our way to become a real organization, we continued teh meeting by electing officers:
• President: Marcel Rotter

• Vice President: Cindie Kelly

• Secretary: Virginia East

• Treasurer: Jack East

We discussed teh next step to set up an organizational structure and to raise funds for our planned activities. We agreed that we need to create some publicity in order to get more people engaged in the city partnership. In addition to approaching teh media, we will creat a flyer and will be present with booths at the Heritage Festival (July 3, 2010 - Riverfront Park) and the Oktoberfest (September 18, Caroline Street).

In addition, we have plans for the following:
1. Beer social at The Bavarian Chef ($ for a pretzel and a beer) in the week of July 5
2. Ice cream social in August (time and place TBD)
 - At all events, we will collect contact information from interested residents who will be invited for
4. a preparation meeting on September 22 or 23 in the Public Library for the Schwetzinger visit

We also discussed further how we can be of help to the groups transportation needs and how we can get people of the two respective cities together during the group's visit.

Meeting on January 27

The committee discussed opportunities to get the word out about its work. The focus of discussion in the next months should be the visit of a citizen group from Schwetzingen to Fredericksburg. While they pay their own way and will most likely organize some excursions in the area (D.C., Williamsburg) themselves, we should organize some sort of meeting with our residents. Any ideas?
